What did you do in the last 15 months?

My last blog entry was the day I started chemo. That was early November 2010. I optimistically expected to blog regularly about cancer and how it related to all aspects of insurance. I haven't made an entry since.

Four days after I started chemo, I ended up in the hospital with complicated side effects, and it went downhill from there. I had chemo till April 2011 and on April 26/27 I had a stem cell transplant at the Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton. I spent almost a month in the hospital. Frankly the whole process was awful, but I would do it again in a minute if I had to.

I had a slow but successful recovery over the summer and fall and started back to work on a very part time basis in the early winter. I had a full body cat scan today for my annual followup check up in early May. Apparently the stem cell transplant took well. They told me it would take a year or so to "get back". I am grateful.

For all of those people that want to talk about our health care system and all of it's troubles I'll give you my take on it. I got what I needed in a timely manner. I figure they spent 1/2 to 3/4 of a million dollars on me. I only saw a bill for $80 for one ambulance ride I needed to the hospital. So what's the matter with that?

I will be blogging regularily. Let me know if there are any subjects you want to deal with.
